Slavic Christian and the power of your thoughts

Dear Slavic Christian, what if some of your suffering is self-induced? We often blame God for “bad things happening to us,” without considering that our actions are rooted in an unhealthy mindset that got us into that pit or harmful circumstance.

I know this may be hard to hear, but open your heart to the information below to see if receiving the uncomfortable truth can help you heal.

Let’s start with this concept: “What you think, you become.”

That’s Psychology 101.

Scripture says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45).

Thus, how you think influences how you feel, and both will determine your actions.

Notice the problems in your life.

Most of them started with a negative thought or feeling you most likely didn’t take captive, leading to you engaging in a series of negative behaviors.

If I can take you deeper, I’d say, “positive/life-giving thoughts” are rooted in being secure in your identity in Christ, while “negative/life-sucking” thoughts are rooted in an orphan/victim mindset, and these are destroying your life.

Further proof of this is: as soon as you recognize the impact of your thoughts, you get to CHOOSE if you want to stay in bondage to them (if they’re destructive), or thrive in their liberty (if they’re life-giving).

God can’t change your thoughts; He gave you free will to rule over them so you can choose His love over hurting or living for yourself.

The question is, will you choose freedom and healing, or will you choose to keep suffering in your mind, body, and environment by living like an orphan instead of the Child of the King that He died for you to become?

You may think, “Ilona, I don’t have that power. I don’t know where to start. Can you make it more practical?” I’d like to encourage you to reach out and learn more in therapy. I will teach you every skill you need to know to be free from your negative thoughts that fuel insecurities, a sense of worthlessness, or imperfection, because you’ll learn that your worth doesn’t come from who you are or what you do. It comes from who He is and what He’s done. That’s why focusing on the truth in His Word instead of your struggles is so important. He is bigger than your fears, struggles, and shortcomings. He is capable of loving you through all the negative thoughts and lies satan sends that may leave you feeling powerless, afraid, depressed, condemned, and alone. The love of Jesus can set you free from anything that binds you to pain, guilt, and shame, giving you the complete opposite in return: joy, peace, and freedom found only in Him.

The most significant part about discovering God’s love is that when you start believing what He says about you, you thrive like He always intended. Isn’t that itself not worth exploring? Whenever you’re ready, I’m here to serve you and help you live in this freedom that changed my life.
